Mary Poppins is the original super-nanny!
The Mary Poppins musical was finally adapted for the stage, forty years after the success of the 1964 Academy Award-winning film. Produced by Thomas Schumacher for Disney Theatrical Productions, the Mary Poppins show sees Cameron Mackintosh teaming up with Richard Eyre and Matthew Bourne, to bring to the London stage one of the most sought-after musicals ever.
The Mary Poppins London theatre show opened in December 2004 and quickly won two Olivier awards. Its popularity continues, and in December 2006 it also opened on Broadway to huge acclaim. Now in its third year in London, Mary Poppins tickets are highly sought after - to book early, visit our ticket office for a choice of the best Mary Poppins theatre tickets available, at the Prince Edward Theatre.
The story of Mary Poppins
The plot of the Mary Poppins theatre show probably needs little explanation as it is very similar to the film. Mary Poppins, the 'practically perfect' nanny, transforms the lives of the Banks family through a series of adventures and magical events. The stage musical is, however, not identical to the film as it incorporates some interesting elements from the book that were omitted in the film.
Parents should note that the Mary Poppins show has proved unexpectedly controversial because, despite the apparently child-friendly theme and story, the producers decided that some of the action would be too much for the under-three age group. Very small children are refused admittance. Age recommendation for the Mary Poppins London theatre show is seven years and over, with children under the age of three not admitted.
