The stage adaptation is directed by Julie Taymor, the music by Elton John and lyrics to the unforgettable songs are by Tim Rice. The Lion King tells the story of Simba, the young lion prince, heir to his father King Mufasa's throne and power. Mufasa's brother Scar's nose is put out of joint by the birth of Mufasa and the story tells of his tricks and plots to get rid of the young lion prince and take the throne back for himself.

The story of The Lion King
Scar plots to kill both Simba and his father, King Mufasa, and proclaim himself king. Simba survives but is led to believe that his father died because of him, and he decides to flee the kingdom.
His adventures then begin and he learns a lot before finally returning to his homeland to save the day.
The Lion King theatre production is based on Disney's hugely successful animated film, The Lion King, which was released in 1994.
