The story of Chicago
Set during the era of prohibition in Chicago in the 1920s, the Chicago musical tells the story of Roxie Hart, a chorus girl who murders her lover and then persuades her husband, Amos, to take the blame.
However, Amos recognises the identity of the dead man and Roxie is arrested. Roxie's fate becomes entangled with that of former vaudeville star Velma Kelly, currently also on trial for murder, when they end up in the same prison together, with the same lawyer. Velma's case is centre-stage in the newspapers, and she has become quite a celebrity.
