Ideally located at Leicester Square, the five-star,
124-room Hampshire Hotel is popular with leisure and business travelers to London.
History/Architecture
The Hampshire's décor reflects the style of England's Edwardian period (1901-1910), with a mixture of traditional English wood panelling and furniture, and original artwork, artefacts and carpets from Europe, the Middle East and the Orient.
The Renaissance style building of red brick and buff terra cotta was constructed from 1899-1901, and originally housed London's Royal Dental Hospital. In 1985, the Royal Dental Hospital moved to larger premises. Radisson Edwardian purchased the building in 1987, adding two more floors and a Penthouse overlooking Trafalgar Square. When the Hampshire opened in April 1989, it was London's newest five-star hotel.
Location
Within walking distance of the Hampshire are West End theatres, Chinatown, Soho clubs, bars and music venues, Royal Opera House, Trafalgar Square, National Gallery, Covent Garden and Piccadilly Circus. The Pastoria hotel, another Radisson Edwardian property, is next door at 3 St. Martin's Street. Nearest underground stations are Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus.
Bedrooms/Features
The Hampshire features 124 bedrooms with five suites, 17 junior suites, 23 Hallmarks, 47 doubles, 10 twins and 22 kings. Deluxe rooms feature a work area and desk, express check-in/out and bathrobe and slippers.
In-room features include air conditioning, personal phone number with voicemail, modem connection, high-speed wireless Internet access, satellite and pay movies, in-room safe, mini bar, trouser press and hair dryers.
Restaurants/Bars
The Apex Restaurant's popular menu reflects a fusion of modern British and Mediterranean influences, served in a classic and contemporary environment, with rich mahogany panelling, pale raffia wall coverings, animal prints and Morosso high-backed chairs. The restaurant is open for breakfast daily, Sunday brunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday (closed Sunday for dinner and closed daily for lunch).
For a pre-dinner drink, try the Apex Bar, Crescent bar or al fresco on Oscars Terrace. The Crescent Bar has intimate vaulted alcoves, lit by candlelight.
Conference facilities
The Hampshire has a variety of conference and private
dining facilities, ideal for meetings, training courses,
weddings and private dining. Up to 70 can be accommodated
for dinner, or 90 theatre-style. A unique feature
is the spacious Penthouse Suite, with breathtaking views
of London's skyline, including the London Eye, Big Ben
and Nelson's Column. This suite is ideal for VIP
meetings, formal lunches, dinners and weddings.
It has its own registration area, cloakroom and facilities.
