The Lowry Centre
Manchester's Lowry Centre is an impressive centre for arts and performance. Built as part of a regeneration of the Manchester Docks, it houses 2 large theatres and a studio space for performing arts. The whole spectrum of entertainment is featured at the Lowry Centre, including opera, dance, musicals, plays, ballet, children's shows, comedy and gallery space. Music also features extensively on the programme, including pop, folk and jazz.
Events at the Lowry Centre in 2009 include Shakespeare 4 Kidz, An Evening with Ricky Hatton, Andy Parsons Live and the Richard Alston Dance Company.
The space within the Lowry Centre is used for a variety of occasions, including conferences, weddings, Christmas parties, educational visits and family and group activites.
The Lowry Centre is also a great destination for food and drink with the Lowry Restaurant serving modern British food in a waterside setting. You'll also find the Terrace bar with great views by the water, the Tower coffee shop for a relaxing break, and bars at each of the theatres for interval drinks.
Admission to the building is free but most events will require a ticket. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Lowry Centre box office directly. When there are no evening events the building will close at 8pm (6pm on Sundays and Mondays). The Lowry Centre is a 10 minute drive from Manchester city centre, but ample public transport makes it easy to leave the car at home. The train, tram and bus all bring you within walking distance of the centre.
