Manchester Craft & Design Centre
Manchester Craft & Design Centre is located in the city's creative Northern Quarter, taking residence in the former Victorian Fish and Poultry Market. Crafts and design work exhibited at the centre include jewellery, clothing accessories, fashion, furniture, lighting, textiles, ceramics, pottery, photography and painting. With 18 boutique studios, Manchester Craft & Design Centre is a haven for talented artists and new and emerging designers to work on, produce, and sell to the public.
Whether you're a keen artist or a novice designer, there's something for you at this, one of the UK's finest craft and design centres. Exhibitions run all year and in 2009 include UK Craft Mafias, and Eve Bennet, winner of the MMU Graduate Exhibition Award.
Getting to the Craft & Design Centre couldn't be easier as it is within walking distance from High Street, Market Street and Manchester Victoria stations. Nearby is the Greater Manchester Police Museum, as well as the famous Manchester Picadilly Gardens.
The centre offers free entry, but may sometimes charge for entrance to certain exhibitions, and is open between 10am and 5.30pm Monday to Saturday. Disabled access is limited as there is no lift, and many exhibitions are held in studios on the upper level, so you are advised to check before visiting if you have any special requirements.
