Legoland

Legoland in Windsor is a large, popular family theme park aimed mainly at younger children, but a great day out for everyone. Packed with rides, activities, events, and shows, children can experience log flumes, boat rides, rollercoasters, gold panning, car racing, as well as the huge new water ride - Vikings' River Splash - which opened in July 2007. Sailing through worlds crated by millions of lego pieces it's difficult to avoid being splashed! The Hall of Fame is fun for adults, where you can see famous people related to recent events made entirely out of lego.

Founded in 1934 by the Danish master carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen, Lego first came into being when he started making toys out of little wooden blocks in his workshop. Although he also sold ironing boards, step ladders, and other toys the wooden blocks were always his best-selling items. The company adopted the invented name 'lego' from an amalgamation of the two Danish words meaning "play well." Lego also means "I put together" in Latin. In 1968 the company opened its first permanent exhibition in Billund, Denmark, and in 1996 Legoland Windsor, in the UK, opened to great acclaim, using twenty-five million lego bricks.

Today Legoland strives to offer active participation for children in self expressive play and imaginative stimulation. With over fifty interactive rides and attractions, eleven restaurants and cafes and seven shops throughout the site, the park offers a comprehensive and fun-packed day out for all the family. So whether your child wants to try their hand at gold panning, fire-fighting, driving a boat or car, taming dragons, working a digger, or walking through mini lego capital cities of Europe, it's active and imaginative entertainment all round.

Legoland is located on the B3022 Windsor/Ascot road, just two miles from the centre of Windsor town, and only twelve and a half miles (20.3 kilometres) from Heathrow airport. It can be easily reached via the M25 motorway, and is signed from the M3, M4, and all approach roads. If you're travelling by train Legoland is just thirty minutes from London, Paddington, via Slough; or direct from Waterloo to Windsor and Eaton Riverside, with a bus to the park from nearby both stations.

Entrance is FREE for children under the age of three years old.
